Greetings! And welcome to our website. It is our hope here at Ballard First Lutheran that this "virtual" site will draw you closer to our flesh and blood community of faith. There is nothing "virtual" about the Christian life. It is rather like inhaling and exhaling. In worship, the Christian breathes in God's gifts of love, mercy, and forgiveness. Without inhaling, a person cannot live. Without worship, the Christian life cannot be sustained.

The body does not live by inhaling alone, however. The body needs to exhale as well. When the Christian serves, it is like exhaling. In serving, the Christian shares God's gifts of love, mercy, and forgiveness with others. As certainly as exhaling is necessary for human life to continue, service is necessary to preserve the life of the Christian.

We invite you to come visit us and encounter the living, breathing Christians who make up the faith community that is Ballard First Lutheran Church. We hope that our life together here will inspire you to "come and worship" and to "go and serve." May that rhythm become as natural for you as the rhythm of breathing.

In worship, God blesses us. In serving, we share God's blessings with others. Indeed, we are blessed to be a blessing!

Sincerely in Christ,
Pastor Erik R. Wilson Weiberg

Greetings from Ballard First Lutheran Church!
Here at BFL we strive to be a loving, inclusive faith community that embodies what it means to be the Body of Christ not only here in Ballard, but also in the greater Seattle area and in the world. How do we do this?
  1. Worship - On Sunday mornings at 10 am (we’d love to have you join us!), we come together for worship through the Word and Sacrament.  Together we hear the word of God and gather at the table so that we may be nourished and sustained by the Word and Bread of Life for the week to come.
  2. Living Our Vocations - As St. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians, we are one body with many parts.  At Ballard First, we believe that God gives each of us unique and valuable gifts to share with and use in the world.  Regardless of which profession and/or roles you find yourself called to, we believe in encouraging and affirming the gifts we see within our community so that these gifts may be used to help others know and experience God’s work in their lives.
  3. Community - At Ballard First Lutheran, we enjoy the company of one another!  Whether it’s coming together to share a soup supper during Lent or fellowship activities such as Movie and game nights, we find that the fellowship we experience together deepens our relationships with one another and enables us to better support each other during the difficult times that life sometimes presents.
  4. Service - Jesus commanded, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”  Ballard First takes this teaching to heart by being an active member of Faith Action Network (an interfaith non-profit committed to advocating for the common good), providing community dinners, and by participating in other acts of service throughout our community.
  5. Education - Ballard First Lutheran believes that education is imperative to our faith formation and can transform the way in which we interact with the world and people surrounding us.  Ballard First offers a number of educational opportunities including a weekly Bible Study, Adult Forums, and Sunday School for children of all ages.
We hope that you too will find Ballard First to be a loving, inclusive, welcoming faith community built on the foundation of God’s love for our world!  We look forward to seeing you soon!

In Christ’s Peace,
Pastor Elise Scott
